The institute is in the south of Dresden on the area of the University of Technology of Dresden.

By car
Coming from the highway change to A17 direction Prague (Prag) at the interchange Dresten-West. Leave the A17 at the exit Dresden-Südvorstadt, drive approx. 2 km direction Dresden up to the campus of the University of Technology of Dresden. Then turn to the left into Mommsenstrasse. At the T-junction turn to the left into Helmholtzstrasse. The IFW is on the corner Helmholtzstrasse / Nöthnitzer Strasse.
From the airport or by train
From Dresden-Klotzsche (airport) go by city railroad S2 to the central station (Hauptbahnhof) . From the central station go by tram No. 3 or 8 two stops to Nürnberger Platz. Bend from the Münchner Strasse into Helmholtzstrasse. The IFW is at the end of Helmholtzstrasse, corner Helmholtzstrasse / Nöthnitzer Strasse.
